M73 - upcoming overnight closures

Eight overnight closures of M73 southbound from Junction 3 Mollinsburn

Road users are advised that the M73 southbound will be closed overnight from Junction 3 Mollinsburn for eight nights, between Monday 21 September and 2 October 2020.

These closures are scheduled in two phases to help minimise disruption to traffic.

The closures are required to ensure road user and road worker safety whilst essential surfacing works are undertaken. The road will re-open at 6 AM each morning.

The two phases of overnight closures are planned as follows:

Phase 1:
M73 southbound Junction 3 Mollinsburn (the link road from M80) to Junction 2A Gartcosh will be closed for four nights from Monday 21 to Thursday 24 September, between 8pm and 6am. As a result, the M80 to M73 southbound link road slip roads to and from Mollinsburn will also be closed.

Signed diversions will be in operation as follows:

  • M80 – M73 southbound link road: Traffic will be diverted via the M80 southbound to M80 Junction 1 / M8 Junction 13 Provan join the M8 eastbound to Junction 8 Baillieston to re-join the M73 southbound
  • M73 southbound Junction 3 on slip road from Mollinsburn: Traffic will be diverted via Cumbernauld Road to its junction with Gartferry Road. From here, vehicles will turn right to M80 southbound at Junction 4 Moodiesburn and follow the diversion route above.

Phase 2:
M73 southbound Junction 3 Mollinsburn (on slip road from M80) to Junction 2 Baillieston will be closed for four nights from, Tuesday 29 September to Friday 2 October, from 8 PM to 6 AM. As a result, the M80 to M73 southbound link road slip roads to and from Mollinsburn and the Junction 2A Gartcosh on slip road will also be closed.

Signed diversions will be in operation as follows:

  • M80 – M73 southbound link road: Traffic will be diverted via the M80 southbound to M80 Junction 1/M8 Junction 13 Provan, and join the M8 eastbound to Junction 8 Baillieston to re-join the M73 southbound
  • M73 southbound Junction 3 on slip road from Mollinsburn: Traffic will be diverted via Cumbernauld Road to its junction with Gartferry Road. From here, vehicles will turn right to M80 southbound at Junction 4 Moodiesburn and follow the diversion route above
  • M73 southbound Junction 2a Gartcosh on slip road: Traffic will be diverted via the M73 northbound Junction 2a Gartcosh to the Junction 3 Mollinsburn off slip road and follow the diversion above.

These works will be carried out by Scottish Road Partnership (SRP) on behalf of Transport Scotland to maintain the integrity and safety of this route.

These works have been planned in consultation with Transport Scotland, Traffic Scotland, the emergency services, BEAR Scotland (M80 DBFO), Amey (South West Operating Company), North Lanarkshire Council and Glasgow City Council.
