Project Details
Background
Recommendation 40 in the second Strategic Transport Projects Review (STPR2) recognises the importance of both the A77 and the A75 to Scotland and it’s economy. It recommends that safety, resilience and reliability improvements are made including improving junctions, enhancing overtaking opportunities and widening or realigning carriageways to alleviate ‘pinch points’ such as narrow structures or at stretches of older standard single carriageway.
Recognising the importance of the A75 to Scotland, Northern Ireland and the wider United Kingdom, the Scottish Ministers have been granted funding by the UK Government to progress a study to consider the design and assessment of options for the realignment of the A75 around Springholm and Crocketford.
Following a robust procurement process in 2024 Transport Scotland appointed technical advisors, Jacobs UK Limited, to take forward design development and assessment work for the A75 Springholm and Crocketford Improvements scheme. This work will involve looking at options for bypasses of Springholm and Crocketford and assessment of these options considering road safety, engineering, environment, traffic and economic factors.
The outcome of the initial design and assessment work will identify a preferred route option for the scheme and is expected to conclude in 2027.
