A82 Trunk Road - (Fort Augustus) - (Prohibition on Waiting Loading and Unloading) Order 202[]

The Scottish Ministers hereby give notice that they propose to make the above Order under sections 1(1), 2(1) and (2) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 which will have the effect of prohibiting waiting, loading and unloading on the following lengths of road:

West side

1. That length of the A82 Dalnottar – Inverness Trunk Road at Fort Augustus from a point 30 metres or thereby north east of the north kerbline of Bunoich Brae junction south west and south for a distance of 546 metres or thereby.

East side

2. That length of the A82 Dalnottar – Inverness Trunk Road at Fort Augustus from a point 30 metres or thereby north east opposite the north kerbline of Bunoich Brae junction south west and south for a distance of 546 metres or thereby.

Full details of the proposal are contained in the Order which, together with a plan showing the lengths of roads involved and a statement of the Scottish Ministers’ reasons for proposing to make the Order may be examined free of charge during normal business hours from 28th February 2025 to 21st March 2025 at the offices of Transport Scotland, George House, 2nd Floor, 36 North Hanover Street, Glasgow, G1 2AD, Fort Augustus Post Office, Great Glen Trading Centre, Main Street, Fort Augustus, PH32 4DD and Fort Augustus Pharmacy, Great Glen Trading Centre, Fort Augustus, PH32 4DD.

Any person wishing to object to the proposed Order should send details of the grounds for objection in writing to the Director of Roads, c/o Margarita Michael, Transport Scotland, George House, 36 North Hanover Street, Glasgow, G1 2AD - quoting reference NW/A82/MM or by email to TRO-Objections@transport.gov.scot by 21 March 2025.

Statement of the Scottish Ministers Reasons

The Scottish Ministers propose to change the waiting, loading and unloading restrictions on the following lengths of the road:

West side

1. That length of the A82 Dalnottar – Inverness Trunk Road at Fort Augustus from a point 30 metres or thereby north east of the north kerbline of Bunoich Brae junction south west and south for a distance of 546 metres or thereby.

East side

2. That length of the A82 Dalnottar – Inverness Trunk Road at Fort Augustus from a point 30 metres or thereby north east opposite the north kerbline of Bunoich Brae junction south west and south for a distance of 546 metres or thereby.

These proposals seek to stop and discourage indiscriminate parking by visitors to Fort Augustus and improve the safety and efficiency of the A82 by necessitating the provision for waiting, loading and unloading, thereby decreasing the likelihood of vehicles parking on and along the A82 to the detriment of road safety.

The proposed Order will not make changes to the existing public and private parking arrangements and bus stop locations in Fort Augustus.
